Today is Throwback Thursday and I thought I would bring my French Calligraphy Sewing Table out of the archives and dust it off a bit. I love the way this table looks now.
I am a lover of words printed on anything....and, I mean anything. I wanted so to try the calligraphy on a piece of furniture but was oh, so leery about the preciseness of it until I read about an oh so easy technique on The Graphics Fairy. After reading this easy "how-to" and I had to go for it.
This is the before picture of the table. I picked it up for $5 at a garage sale but, the top was quite warped and T and I thought if nothing else the legs were worth the $5 and could be recycled for that alone. However, we put some heavy weights on it and it sat in our garage through the hot summer and lo and behold the table top flattened out quite nicely. Amazing what you can do simply by having the patience to wait it out.... this happens very seldom for me because I am an instant gratification person.
Anyway, I proceeded to paint her with white DIY chalk paint - because we all know that French means white - right? She got two coats before I proceeded to the next step.
Then following The Graphics Fairy's instructions I traced a French label graphic she had available for copying and then used black Sharpies to color the lettering in with. This step did take a while to do.
I love the finished table and it makes a perfect sewing table for my little creative space. I couldn't have found a more perfect table it I had set out to shop for one.
Have you ever been intimidated by a technique then when you finally tried it found out it was really quite simple? Please tell us about it in the comments below. I answer all comments through email.
Until next time - get out there and create something you love.
I will be linking to the link parties listed on the "I Party At" page above.
Cathy, LOVE this--what a transformation! Thanks for sharing! Blessings, Cecilia
