Pastel Spring Mantel Done with Books

Good morning friends.
I don't know about where you are but Spring is in full swing here and I am all about bringing some of that bright color and sunshine into our home after this long winter.  I have been busy adding small touches to our decor to reflect the beautiful pastel colors of Spring. I started this process by adding a lot of pastel color to our mantel in a very simple way - using books.

If you have been following me for very long you know that I love books and use them in my decor in all sorts of ways.  This Spring I was all about simple and easy as I am still recovering from surgery. How much simpler can you get than covering old books with colorful scrapbook papers and adding them in an interesting fashion to your mantel.  Just the colors of the papers shout Spring - then add a few focal points and you have a pretty and cheerful bit of this season right in your family room.

The main drawing point is the fabric rag wreath done in yellow that reminds me so of that bright yellow orb in the sky.  This is a last years project  you can find the tutorial for here.  It is an easy project that can be done in an afternoon and lasts forever.

Below that bright orb I have some pastel paper covered books stacked and a couple of cute little topiaries that I made and placed in a couple of pretty little blue candle holders.  I then tied some raffia around them to add a little interest to the whole vignette.

On the left side are some more paper covered books stacked to support a vintage ironstone pitcher filled with a "faux" Spring bouquet of yellow, blue and white flowers.

On the right of the mantel I have stacked a few more paper covered books.  I then added a metal candlestick supporting a moss nest with a yellow ceramic bird.  So sweet.

I love all the pastel colors but mainly I love the pops of yellow I have used throughout the whole vignette.  I have scattered this bright cheerful yellow color around our family room to bring lots of Spring in where I could enjoy it even on those chilly, rainy days we still get.  I will be sharing more with you in the next few days.
So come back - I have lots more easy ways to add Spring to your home in a quick, easy and budget friendly way.

  10. Loving your spring mantle, I love sing books too. I admit I don't have the patience to cover them like you do. The decor books I use come from the thrift store and are usually on their last leg, so I (whispering) spray paint them. LOL

Seeing yours I may have to start stocking up on pretty paper!

    1. Thanks so much Christine. I get my books at thrift stores also. I think I find spray painting more work that covering them, lol... I have a huge stock of paper left over from my scrapbook store so I have to find inventive ways of using it up.
