It's a beautiful day here today - the sun is bright and the temps are in the low 60's. Spring is just around the corner and I, for one cannot wait for her to get here. It seems this has been a very long winter - even at the beach. I know I have not been blogging much but, I have taken this time to do some reading and studying. I have been learning how to make deco mesh wreaths and beautiful chalkboards. I can hardly wait to start sharing all the awesome new crafts and techniques I have been working on. I think you are going to love them as much as I have making them. So, today I am going to share this beautiful Beachy Deco Mesh Wreath I just finished.
I was out browsing some of the stores right after Christmas and found this little sign at one of them. At the time I had no ideas what I was going to do with it but just couldn't pass it up. So, when I started learning how to make these wreaths this little sign gave me the inspiration for my very first one - a beachy wreath with lots of beach colors. It is made with a gorgeous sandy color mesh that has a gold thread run through it as the base. Then I added some sea blue and some sea green mesh with metallic threads. These just look so much like the sea itself.
When I think of the sea I also think of the wharves and all the ropes and netting found there. So, I decided we needed a bit of that rustic texture added to this wreath. I decided some brown burlap ribbon would be perfect. The ribbons I used are a 2inch sea blue burlap wired ribbon and a 1 inch unwired chevron ribbon with variegated stripes of blues and greens.
Next, are the embellishments that make this wreath so much fun. First, I wired the little beach sign into the right side of the wreath. The colors of the ribbons and mesh match with the sign so well. Love how they all look together.
However, it still needed a bit of something on the left side. I found some cute little starfish at a craft store here. They were actually a sea blue color that just blended into the wreath and was hard to see. So, I painted them white and sprinkled them with some glitter to make them shine. Then I tied some twine around them and wired them into the wreath.
This is a side view of the wreath and shows the depth of it. It's actually about 7" deep - and the overall size is a 22" circle. I love how it turned out with all its beachy goodness.
What have you been doing to get ready for Spring? Have you been using your winter to learn something new? I love to hear from you so tell me about it in the comments below.
